Elevating Stairwell Designs with Banker Wire Mesh Handrailings
In modern interior design, stairwells are no longer just functional spaces, but opportunities to make a statement. One of the most striking ways to achieve this is by incorporating decorative wire mesh into handrail infill panels. The Banker Wire SZ-14 precision-engineered wire mesh transforms a simple railing into a sophisticated design element. The clean lines and geometric patterns of this woven wire mesh create a sense of openness while maintaining structural integrity, making it ideal for luxury office environments and high-end commercial spaces.

The SZ-14 woven wire mesh offers a unique blend of elegance and minimalism with its plated antique brass finish. Unlike bulky solid panels, wire mesh allows air and light to pass through its pattern while still introducing texture and visual interest, complementing the surrounding architecture. Its transparency allows designers to maintain sightlines, which is especially valuable in open-concept offices or stairwells that connect multiple floors. This subtle yet impactful design choice complements contemporary styles, making woven wire mesh a versatile solution for architects and designers.

Architects at Gensler chose the Dune 40100 flexible wire mesh facade installed on the Jewish Leadership campus because it is durable and low-maintenance. Made from high-quality stainless steel, the flexible wire mesh can withstand environmental conditions that cause corrosion or UV radiation. This longevity ensures that the facade remains attractive and functional over time, reducing the need for frequent repairs or replacements. With other future installations, the wire mesh can be customized in various finishes or colors to allow for a high degree of personalization to match the overall vision of the design project.

Framing the Wire Mesh
Jason Losko from Metalform Studio shared some insight how they installed the SZ-14 into the handrail system. “The wire mesh is held captive between two opposing angle frames that are fastened directly to the guardrail frame. The mitered corners are joined with precise hairline joints for a clean finish.” Jason continued to add, “Thin foam tape was then applied to the inside edges of the angles to prevent any rattling when people walk on the stairs. By designing the guardrail and infill details ourselves, this allowed us to achieve extremely tight tolerances and a seamless fit throughout the installation.” Once the framing system was fabricated, they powder coated the frame and railing components in a bronze color to match the plated finish of the wire mesh.

Customization for Every Vision
Wire mesh handrails are highly customizable, allowing designers to select from many patterns and finishes that align with their projects vision. Whether you are aiming for a modern stainless-steel look or a warmer bronze tone, the flexibility of our manufacturing process ensures your wire mesh will integrate seamlessly into your design scheme. This adaptability makes wire mesh a go-to choice for architects seeking to balance creativity with compliance in office applications.
