Aluminum, recognized as the most popular non-ferrous metal globally, is extensively utilized in the wire mesh industry. Aluminum wire mesh chemistry incorporates traces of elements such as copper, magnesium, manganese, or silicon, but is primarily composed of aluminum.

Aluminum wire mesh, at only one-third the weight of steel, exhibits highly adaptable properties as a woven wire product. This cost-effective material is notably resistant to atmospheric corrosion and offers various surface treatment options, making it suitable for numerous applications. When weight and corrosion resistance are critical factors, aluminum wire mesh is an excellent choice.

The lightweight nature of aluminum woven wire mesh is significant; it is approximately one-third the weight of its stainless steel counterpart. With a melting point of approximately 1218°F, aluminum offers several advantages, including a relatively low cost compared to other mesh materials. This makes aluminum woven wire mesh a preferred option across various industries, including aerospace, automotive, marine, and electrical conductivity applications.

Considerations when specifying Aluminum wire mesh:
Aluminum has a relatively low modulus of elasticity. Compared to steel wire mesh, aluminum wire mesh will suffer a higher degree of deformation at equal loads. Therefore, the physical characteristics of a mesh spacing and diameter combination in aluminum will not be comparable to that of the same in steel. To maintain the required rigidity for a particular application, it is advisable to increase wire diameter somewhat.

Key considerations when specifying aluminum wire mesh include its relatively low modulus of elasticity. Compared to steel wire mesh, aluminum wire mesh will experience greater deformation under equal loads. Therefore, the physical characteristics of mesh spacing and diameter in aluminum will differ from those in steel. To maintain the required rigidity for a particular application, it is advisable to increase the wire diameter accordingly.
