Wire mesh is the material that gives functionality and fashion to a range hood. In this picture, the wire mesh is highly visible and makes the kitchen appliance ultra-modern looking. By appearance, this material is very appealing, but it's also very practical. Because of the mesh, air filtration is very good: grease and other particles get trapped, while proper ventilation is guaranteed. This prevents the unwanted residues from developing on the surfaces and in the air, hence providing a clean environment within the kitchen.
This private residence located in Sydney, Australia, utilized Banker Wire’s S-32 woven wire mesh for a stunning covering on a modern range hood. S-32 was woven in plain steel and then plated in Antique Brass, the framing was supplied by the fabricator and electroplated with an aged copper finish. The wire mesh was laser cut to size and attached to the substrate using small bronze nails.
S-32 is a small scale, flat wire woven wire mesh pattern that is simplistic, yet beautiful. The shape of the wires and pattern they form are reminiscent of basket style mesh. The low percent open area of S-32 creates a mock-opaque look when used as cladding.
On the second count, wire mesh has also been used in some designs for range hood, which has proved to further enhance the durability and ease of maintenance of the range hood. The robust construction of the mesh will not burn or give way at high temperatures or even under frequent usage. Cleaning the mesh was simple, sometimes it just needs to be wiped or rinsed to remove the grease that builds up in it. The resilience, ease of care, and good looks make wire mesh a fine material for range hood applications in modern setups and allow them to fit inconspicuously into today's kitchens while performing their functions.
