Three seating styles fill out the San Diego Broadway Pier, the inclusions of stainless steel M13Z-179 woven wire, simple benches, benches with backs and arms, and café tables. The benches and their styles were specifically chosen because they invoke the look of something a shipbuilder would have designed. Spain's Escofet designed the benches that have backs and arms and Civitas designed the standard benches. They were all fabricated with laminated Alaskan yellow cedar and wrapped in steel straps by Richardson Steel, a local family-owned business, inspired by old ship masts. The strapping is for beauty to add and to prevent skateboarders from using them for practice.
