In Toronto’s South Core Business District, One York Street is an impressive Class ‘AAA’ office tower that boasts multiple offices as well as retail stores and restaurants. The large banks of elevators located inside One York Street use Banker Wire’s DS-55 in stainless steel as cladding on the interior of the elevator cabs.
DS-55 is an opaque wove wire mesh pattern with a single flat cross wire repeat, giving a relatively flat and smooth yet textured appearance to the inside of the elevator cab. The structured appearance of DS-55 juxtaposes well with the natural marble flooring and walls in the elevator lobby area
Stainless steel’s natural reflectiveness combined with the textured pattern of the opaque DS-55 gives off a soft glinting sparkle in the elevator interior.
Wire mesh for elevators can be used for walls, ceilings, and even as decorative elements in the elevator lobby. This flexibility allows architects and designers to get creative and make the elevator a true centerpiece. Whether aiming for a minimalist look or a more elaborate pattern, woven wire mesh can be made to fit the architects vision.
Wire mesh in elevators, as in this project from One York, elicits a mixture of visual aesthetic and functional benefits. It enhances the interior of the elevator, giving it a very modern appearance, thus bringing out a very attractive and elegant look. Additionally, the wire mesh will radiate durability and safety, both literally and metaphorically—durable and protected. This versatile styling combined with practicality makes wire mesh an excellent choice in modern elevators for enhancing the aesthetic and functional levels of their interiors.
