The Old Spitalfields Market, located in the heart of historic East London, is an incredible Victorian structure that has housed a market for over 350 years. As the focus of a major restoration in 2018, the new market pods and food units, designed by Foster + Partners, reinforce the unique identity of one of London’s most vibrant and long standing covered markets.
Amron, Banker Wire’s UK distributor, worked closely with Foster + Partners to determine the woven wire mesh pattern that best fit the design of the new market pods. The design called for wire mesh that was unique in appearance but offered a sense of openness and the required security for when the pods were not in use. Banker’s S-50 was chosen as it met all the requirements set forth by the design team.
S-50 is a simple but beautiful flat wire weave that compliments a variety of aesthetics. The 44.4% open area of this wire mesh pattern gives a sense of openness while still providing a sturdy and functional product. The mesh was supplied to Factory Settings who fabricated the pods.
